“A coming-of-age film that shows three different chapters of a young Black boy’s life; he’s trying to understand his place in the world and come to terms with his sexual identity. It doesn’t revert to stereotypes or tropes, it’s really beautiful. The way Barry Jenkins lit Black people in that film is in my work; the blues, the purples just reflect so beautifully on the skin of the Black actors, and I don’t think it’s ever been done successfully before Moonlight, to be honest.
