Investigation of a Citizen Above Suspicion
DIRECTOR: ELIO PETRI
CAST: GIAN MARIA VOLONTè
Featuring an extended introduction by Jim Shaw and Tony Oursler.
Sadistic Roman police investigator Gian Maria Volonté’s idea of a good time involves putting the boot to political dissidents, but he risks facing actual real-world consequences after he slashes the throat of his mocking mistress. Luckily, he’s put to work solving the case, an event that he takes as an occasion to amuse himself by planting self-implicating clues, only then to disprove their significance. A blackly comic and penetrating psychological portrait of a fascist hiding in plain sight, and arguably the pinnacle of Petri and Volonté’s collaboration, one of the greatest in Italian cinema.
